The ACLU is the premier “guardian of liberty” in the nation. With affiliates in all 50 states, the ACLU brings more cases before the US Supreme Court than any non-profit organization. Working not only to preserve the rights guaranteed in the Constitution, the ACLU caseload includes an array of challenges to bring a legal framework to liberties not yet written into or formally recognized by the law. It is impossible to think of major civil liberties gains — civil rights, reproductive freedoms, religious rights and equality for gay men and lesbian women — without the ACLU.
